What is a Chapter Educational Grant?
Chapter Educational Grants are grants made from Chapter Specific Funds (CSFs) within the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation to purchase equipment and provide scholarships that are 100% educational in nature.
What can a Chapter Educational Grant be used for?
For any purpose that can be proved to be 100% educational. This includes, but is not limited to, chapter computers and peripherals, educational software, scholarships to attend the Leadership School, Regional Conclaves and the James E. Greer, Jr. Presidents' Leadership Academy, academic scholarships and awards, scholarships to attend local and regional educational (as long as they are educational and will benefit the chapter as a whole) programs, and reference books for the chapter library.
What restrictions are there on a Chapter Educational Grant?
The IRS requires that all funds granted by a public foundation be made for 100% educational purposes. Further, each Chapter receiving a grant must agree that any funds received will be used only for the purposes stated on the application form. All unused funds, or funds used improperly, must be paid back.
What does a Chapter have to do to obtain a Chapter Educational Grant?
Complete a Chapter Educational Grant Application and send it to the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation Executive Director at the ZBT National Office. Please allow 6-8 weeks for review of applications.
What is the largest grant available?
The largest grant available to a Chapter is the grantable balance of their Chapter Specific Fund.
Is there a limit to the number of grants a Chapter can get?
No, Chapters may apply for grants as many times as they wish. Again, the only limiting factors are the balance of the Chapter Specific Fund and IRS restricitions.
Where does the money come from?
Gifts to a Chapter Specfici Fund can be solicited from all constituencies of a Chapter; undergraduates, parents, volunteers, and any Alumnus. All gifts to the ZBT Foundation are tax-deductable to the extent the law allows. All donors to Chapter Specific Funds receive a thank-you note and a receipt. In addition, all donors will be acknowledged in the Foundation's Annual Report.
