Zeta Beta Tau - Chapter of the Month
Psi - University of Alabama
In April, our brothers from the Psi chapter at the University of Alabama joined with Kappa Alpha Psi – a black fraternity on campus – to hold a forum discussing minority relations in the South.
Alicia Brooks from the Southern Poverty Law Center (SPLC) spoke to the group about the role Jewish leaders played in the Civil Rights Movement and provided information about hate groups in America.
Brooks’ message also promoted accepting diversity through personal interaction, which the students took to heart. Zeta Beta Tau and Kappa Alpha Psi co-hosted a toga party that boasted more than 300 students celebrating diversity and understanding.
The Southern Poverty Law Center was co-founded by Joe Levin, a ZBT alum and last year’s ZBT Man of the Year.
ZBT brother Aaron Zucker and Kappa Alpha Psi member Chris Rogers came up with the idea for the forum while talking at the gym.
The conversation began with the two tossing around the idea of hosting a party together and eventually turned into a discussion about being a minority in the South.
