Zeta Beta Tau - Programs
The Zeta Beta Tau Foundation supports several important educational and leadership development programs, most notably is the Scholarship Awards Program. Well over $1,000,000 has been awarded since 1952. In addition, the Foundation is playing an increasingly significant role in its support of the Fraternity's educational programs by providing leadership education grants.
From a single $250 scholarship in 1952, the Scholarship Awards Program has grown to last year's level of 38 scholarships totaling $29,300. Since its founding, the Foundation has awarded a total of 3,116 scholarships.
The Zeta Beta Tau Foundation is fortunate to be able to provide leadership grants to Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity for the annual Leadership School, Regional Conclaves and the James E. Greer, Jr. Presidents' Leadership Academy.
The Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity Leadership School provides ZBTs the opportunity to share Fraternity in its truest sense with Brothers from around the nation. The Leadership School includes workshops and seminars on topics including leadership, risk management and health.
The Leadership School is the finest opportunity to learn new ideas from Brothers and Alumni experts in fraternity leadership and management.
The Zeta Beta Tau Fraternity Regional Conclaves bring undergraduate Brothers together for a weekend of education on such topics as ethics, risk management, brotherhood programming, and recruitment. Over 10% of ZBT undergraduates attend a Regional Conclave each year. The Regional Conclave program continues to be one of our most successful educational initiatives.
- James E. Greer, Jr. Presidents' Leadership Academy
The James E. Greer, Jr. Presidents' Leadership Academy is a voluntary program for Chapter Presidents. The program covers topics including using leadership abilities to get others to follow the vision of leaders, overcoming obstacles and challenges and identifying and utilizing resources.
What is a Chapter Educational Grant?
Chapter Educational Grants are grants made from Chapter Specific Funds (CSFs) within the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation to purchase equipment and provide scholarships that are 100% educational in nature.
What can a Chapter Educational Grant be used for?
For any purpose that can be proved to be 100% educational. This includes, but is not limited to, chapter computers and peripherals, educational software, scholarships to attend the Leadership School, Regional Conclaves and the James E. Greer, Jr. Presidents' Leadership Academy, academic scholarships and awards, scholarships to attend local and regional educational (as long as they are educational and will benefit the chapter as a whole) programs, and reference books for the chapter library.
What restrictions are there on a Chapter Educational Grant?
The IRS requires that all funds granted by a public foundation be made for 100% educational purposes. Further, each Chapter receiving a grant must agree that any funds received will be used only for the purposes stated on the application form. All unused funds, or funds used improperly, must be paid back.
What does a Chapter have to do to obtain a Chapter Educational Grant?
Complete a Chapter Educational Grant Application and send it to the Zeta Beta Tau Foundation Executive Director at the ZBT National Office. Please allow 6-8 weeks for review of applications.
What is the largest grant available?
The largest grant available to a Chapter is the grantable balance of their Chapter Specific Fund.
Is there a limit to the number of grants a Chapter can get?
No, Chapters may apply for grants as many times as they wish. Again, the only limiting factors are the balance of the Chapter Specific Fund and IRS restricitions.
Where does the money come from?
Gifts to a Chapter Specific Fund can be solicited from all constituencies of a Chapter; undergraduates, parents, volunteers, and any Alumnus. All gifts to the ZBT Foundation are tax-deductable to the extent the law allows. All donors to Chapter Specific Funds receive a thank-you note and a receipt. In addition, all donors will be acknowledged in the Foundation's Annual Report.
Does my Chapter have a Chapter Specific Fund?
Please contact Foundation Executive Director, Faron A. Lewitt for information regarding the existence and/or establishment of a Chapter Specific Fund for your Chapter.
