In spring 2011, a task force consisting of alumni, undergraduates, and headquarters staff worked to determine the best practices and benchmark expectations for all chapters and colonies of Zeta Beta Tau.

As a result of this group’s commitment to the ideals of the Fraternity, the Chapter Standards of Excellence program was revised to quantify expectations for all groups to be in line with the Strategic Plan of the Fraternity. This standards program establishes a way to follow through on the vision of the Fraternity with respect to the undergraduate experience, chapter/colony growth and retention, and preparing members for positions of leadership and service for the rest of their lives. The Chapter Standards of Excellence program also articulates the expectations for chapter and colony leaders to strive to achieve on behalf of their group.

This program accomplishes several goals. It is primarily an objective assessment tool to evaluate chapters and colonies in various aspects of ZBT with respect to organizational development and operations. Additionally, it serves as a guide for all chapters and colonies to identify areas of improvement as well as their strengths as an organization. This combination of characteristics provides ZBT staff, local advisors, and alumni with tangible updates about the status of their chapter or colony.

This program will be best utilized if completed in conjunction with campus and national award applications in future years. Understanding the value of being a true “Powerhouse of Excellence” will allow chapters and colonies to be more successful. Please see below for Chapter Standards of Excellence Resources.
