Jewish Heritage Programming

Proud of its rich heritage and founding as the world’s first Jewish fraternity, Zeta Beta Tau actively seeks out ways to effectively partner with organizations that align themselves with similar values. Zeta Beta Tau continues to develop relationships, programs, and opportunities for its members by collaborating with campus partners, pro-Israel organizations, high school youth groups, and more.

Heritage Award Criteria

As a way to honor its rich heritage, founding principles, and mid-20th century vision, the Fraternity has publicized its award selection criteria for both the Chapter Heritage Programing Award and Individual Heritage Award. Recognizing chapters and individuals for furthering the vision and mission of the Fraternity is a valuable aspect of maintaining ZBT’s identity and heritage as an inclusive Jewish Fraternity. Roger Williams Day

Roger Williams was born in London in 1603, and became an English Protestant theologian who was an early proponent of religious freedom. Williams moved to Boston in 1631 to create an environment conducive to social justice, religious tolerance, and equality.

Zeta Beta Tau proudly acknowledges the commitment made by Roger Williams to improving the world around him. The Fraternity recognized his legacy through its adoption of Roger Williams Day, celebrated on March 22nd.

Chaplain Program

Several years ago ZBT also created the position of National Chaplain. Rabbi Mark Bloom (Gamma '88) is part of the official family for ZBT and works to consult with individuals and chapters on ways they can most impact the Jewish community around them. Rabbi Bloom presents programs focusing on Jewish values at our Leadership School and consults with our Heritage Committee on a regular basis. Learn more about Rabbi Bloom by visiting his bio here.

Rabbi Mark S. Bloom

Have a question for Rabbi Bloom about ways to more effectively incorporate Jewish programming and/or outreach within your chapter? Please click here to complete the form and Rabbi Bloom, or a ZBT staff member, will be in touch with you soon.

In addition to Rabbi Bloom’s service to the Fraternity, ZBT is developing a Regional Chaplain Program. This program will utilize ZBT alumni and partners that are ordained religious leaders to foster relationships with regional chapters and colonies. Educational programs are being developed related to social justice, religious tolerance and education about different religions, and more. Additionally, the Regional Chaplain will be invited to fraternity landmark events, such as house dedications, expansion colonizations, chartering ceremonies, and more. If you or someone you know would be interested in serving in this role, please contact the Fraternity Headquarters This e-mail address is being protected from spambots.
